Spring SelfCare

Spring is in the air. The weather is warming, flowers are starting to bloom, birds are chirping… all of nature feels happy and at peace.

But are you?

As we shift into a new season, it’s the perfect time to check in with yourself – your mind, body, and spirit.

Spring is a time of bliss, hope, and new beginnings… practicing consistent self-care in the spring can help you achieve that feeling internally.

Why Practice Spring Self-Care?

After a few months of winter, it’s common to be feeling the effects of the winter blues or SAD (seasonal affective disorder).

As we head into the new spring season, there seems to be a new wave of motivation and inspiration in the air – as well as lots and lots of pollen. 😉

Spring refresh is all the hype. Everyone is talking about getting your home in order and your spaces organized, but no one really talks about a mental refresh with the incoming spring season.

Our minds and bodies need the same attention and care that we show our houses. Practicing spring self-care is the perfect way to show yourself the love that you deserve.

1. Check In With Yourself

In order to care for yourself in the best way possible, you need to know where you are at. Check in with yourself.

This can be a journal entry, a brain dump paper, or even just a few mental minutes of deep self-reflection.

You must meet yourself where you are at. Know where your mind is. How is your mental health? Physical health? Energy levels? Happiness?

All of these are great things to check in on when jumpstarting your spring self-care challenge.

2. Garden

Nothing screams spring quite as much as a day in the garden. If you have a backyard or outdoor space, spend the day relaxing, gardening, and fine-tuning your green thumb.

3. Clean Out Your Closet

This may sound like a chore… but it’s more of a spring self-care idea. Hear me out.

Going through your closet is a way to get rid of all the clothes that don’t make you feel good. My theory is if you don’t feel like a million bucks wearing it, it doesn’t deserve a spot in your closet.

Donate it, sell it on Poshmark, offer it to a friend, get rid of it!

As I prepare for summer, I like to spend my spring fine-tuning my closet so I only have things that make me feel confident and happy. This is such an important part of self-care. You deserve to feel amazing. Only keep the clothes that align with you.

5. Set New Goals

Anyone that knows me knows that I am constantly setting new goals (and reevaluating old ones). Setting new goals for yourself is a deep form of self-care. Goals are one of the most effective ways to ensure that you are constantly improving, growing, and working towards a life you love.

As we transition into a new season, set some new goals for yourself and this new chapter of life.

6. Social Media Free Day

Take a break from social media for one whole day. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc. can all have negative effects on your mental health (and productivity too!).

By taking a break from your social media scrolling, you allow yourself a mental break from the comparison, negativity, and harmful effects that these platforms can have.

This is not to say social media is bad as a whole… but taking a break can be a great way to practice some self-care.

7. Take a Walk

What better way to practice self-care in the spring than by getting outdoors?

Spring is filled with sunshine, blooming flowers, and blue skies. It’s a perfect time to take a relaxing self-care walk.

Walking has amazing benefits for keeping your mind healthy – as well as your body! For example, a walk can lead to improved self-confidence, reduced stress, better sleep, happier mood, and decreased fatigue. Additionally, staying physically can help combat depression.

The benefits of a simple outdoor walk are amazing. Take advantage of the shift to warmer weather and practice some spring self-care with a walk.

Nothing beats cracking open a new book on a beautiful spring day.

Reading can be an excellent form of self-care. Along with many other benefits, reading can help calm your mind, relax you, ignite your imagination, and offer you some relief from the responsibilities of your everyday life.

If you are looking for a quick, simple, affordable, and easy way to practice self-care this spring, reading is a great option for you!

9. Write Yourself a Thank-You Letter

Self-appreciation and gratitude are often overlooked parts of self-care. It’s easy to get so caught up in our busy lives that we forget to reflect on how amazing we are. Showing yourself some gratitude, love, and appreciation is a key element of deeply caring for yourself.

Take a moment today to write yourself a genuine letter of appreciation. Thank yourself for all you do, all you are, and all you have overcome. Give yourself some acknowledgment and credit for how incredible you are.

Tidy space, tidy mind.

Whether it be your bedroom, your workspace, or your kitchen, keeping your area neat and tidy is important for mental clarity, productivity, and health.

Spring cleaning is often discussed as a form of productivity or organization… what we often forget is that this organization can also be a form of spring self-care. A clean space often leads to more optimism and positivity. Treat yourself to a tidy home this spring.

You could cross off two items on this spring self-care challenge at once and treat yourself to some fresh flowers at the farmer’s market… OR you can opt for some grocery store flowers. Heck, you can even pick your own outside! It really is up to you!

I love to get my flowers at Trader Joe’s. There is ZERO shame in buying yourself a big, beautiful bouquet. Put them in your room or your living space to add some bright, cheerful colors about.

15. Spend a Full Day in Nature

Most of us spend a huge portion of our day indoors and, likely, staring at a screen of some sort. Taking a break from this and getting outside is so important for your mental and physical health.

In the springtime, when the weather is warming, it can be especially pleasant to get outdoors. Simply spending time in nature has been linked to improvements in mood, mental health, happiness, and emotional well-being.

This is such a small, simple, and easy way you can practice some spring self-care this season. All it requires is a conscious decision to take your day outdoors.

16. Decorate for Spring

Bring a little bit of spring into your home with seasonal decorations. Decorating your space for each season/holiday/time of year is a great way to feel present and festive in every moment.

Even just some subtle shifts to your space can help your room feel more festive, bright, and cheerful for the spring. Try adding in some brighter colors, greenery, plants, and festive candles. These small shifts make a huge difference.
